In the beginning of the book Marjane explaines how a "cultural revolution" caused her and all the girls at her school to wear a veil. She comes from a family that shall I say likes to express their opinion about the way their country is being ruled. Her mother appeared in all the european newspapers. Her mother was frightened so she dyed her hair and wore dark glasses for a long time. Marjane doesnt consider herself a very religious person (well deep down shew is but her family is very modern) but would like to be a prophet when she is older. She soon figures out that she is an a higher social class. Marji watched as her maid is crushed because her farther told the neighbors son that she was a maid. Inspired to become a prophet, Marjane speaks to God sometimes. Other times she doesn't what to talk, or tries to change the subject. God feels rejected so he leaves her alone for quite some time. I have not gotten far into the book but I look forward to.
